About Istanbul Ataturk Airport
The Atatürk International Airport is a major airport
located in the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Located in
Yeşilköy, at a 15 miles distance from the city center,
the Atatürk International Airport opened in 1924. It was
named as such in 1980 in honor of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,
who was the founder and the first president of the
Republic of Turkey.

IST has four terminals as follows: Terminal 1, destined
for domestic flights, Terminal 2 for international
flights, Terminal 3 serving cargo flights, and the
General Aviation Terminal.
The airport terminals have been operated by TAB (Tepe-Akfen-Ventures)
since 2000. The Atatürk International Airport is part of
plans for expansion in order to become more efficient;
therefore TAB started the construction of new boarding
gates at the international terminal and of a new air
traffic control tower, along with 3 new boarding bridges
and a new runway that will work initially as a backup
for the existing one.
